At the center of a tatami-matted room, a low table is arranged and a hanging scroll and a flower vase are decorated on the little elevated platform called tokonoma.The entire surroundings produce the traditional Japanese atmosphere with such furnishing as sliding paper screens called shoji.
Properly designed Sukiya(tea ceremony) style guest room, based on the typical traditional format, tatami setting, sliding, paper screens, tokonoma platform are well balanced and producing the traditional aure.
In a guest room, tokonoma side is the upper seat, therefore a father or a leader of the group usually sits in front of the tiny platform.
